A note from Robin Dempsey, Chief Executive Officer
Friends of Catholic Social Services,
I hope this message finds you well. As we continue our mission of compassionately serving our community, I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you all.
Catholic Social Services works to provide services which are in alignment with our mission statement – a statement which has guided our efforts and inspired us to make a difference in the lives of many Alaskans. However, as we evolve and grow, it’s important that our mission evolves with us, reflecting our ongoing commitment to serving individuals and families in a trauma-informed way.
After careful consideration and input from our board, our staff, community partners and supporters alike, we made a slight adjustment to the language of our mission to better align with the work we do every day. We are excited to share our updated mission statement with you:
Mission Statement: We compassionately serve those in need, strengthen individuals and families, and advocatefor the common good. |
Why did we change it?
This refined mission statement better encapsulates the trauma-informed approach to the work we are already doing.
Based on the feedback we received , and our knowledge of trauma-informed language, we removed the words, “the poor.” We also changed “advocate for social justice” to “advocate for the common good” to better clarify our continuing goal of empowering the people we serve, treating them with dignity and respect.
Thank you for standing with us as we work toward a brighter, more equitable future for everyone in our community. By empowering individuals and families on their path to permanent stability, we are creating thriving communities for all.
With gratitude,
