For Tetiana, the classroom has always been more than just a workplace — it’s where she feels most at home. A natural educator and lifelong learner, Tetiana found joy in discovering new ideas and sharing them with others.
Before the war in Ukraine, Tetiana had a successful career as an economist and university lecturer.
“I have always had a desire to learn something new myself and immediately pass this knowledge on to others,” she shares.
As a self-described trailblazer, she thrived in her career and in her calling to teach.
But everything changed in 2022. When war came to Ukraine, Tetiana and her family were forced to flee their home. They found safety in Alaska, but the upheaval took a toll. A lifelong hip condition worsened, causing pain that robbed her of the energy and ability to do what she loved most.

Thanks to the compassion and generosity of donors like you, Tetiana received the support she needed through RAIS case managers and local sponsors. Together, they helped make possible a lifechanging hip surgery that ended years of pain.
Recovery wasn’t easy — but with each step forward, Tetiana felt her strength return. And with it came something even more powerful: a renewed desire to give back.
“After the process of rehabilitation and recovery, I just really wanted to give a gift to those people who invested their finances, energy and time in us,” she shares.
Today, Tetiana is once again doing what she loves: teaching and inspiring others. She recently led an art workshop for high school students, helping young people express their creativity and build new skills. It’s just one example of how she’s embracing a new chapter of life — with purpose, passion, and a deep sense of gratitude.
